Boating is fun... we'll show you how
Raleigh Sail and Power Squadron (RSPS) is a non-profit organization of sail and power boaters in the Raleigh, N.C. area dedicated to promoting safe boating through education. RSPS is one of over 450 squadrons that comprise the United States Power Squadrons ® an organization of approximately 45,000 members dedicated to the sport of recreational boating. We support the sport through organized events such as rendezvous and cruises, classes and civic service projects.

  • EDUCATION : Our educational activities include an introductory boating course( America's Boating Course 3rd. Edition ) for the general public, and a series of advanced courses on a variety of boating topics for our members. The squadron promotes boating safety via a display booths at local boat shows and other events, such as national safe boating week and Wake County's Waterfest. We have also made safety presentations at several corporate events.
  • CIVIC SERVICE : RSPS is involved in three main civic service projects. The first is the USPS - NOAA Cooperative Charting Project. This effort helps keep the government charts accurate. The second is NC Big Sweep . Big Sweep is a waterway cleanup program. Finally RSPS has several examiners that participate in the Vessel Safety Check program , a joint project of USPS and the USCG Auxiliary .
  • FRATERNAL BOATING : During the boating season, we usually have at least one coastal cruise per month, and several outings at the local lakes (Jordan, Falls, Kerr, Gaston). Each month includes a membership meeting that may take the form of dinner at a local restaurant, a fish fry, oyster roast, pig pickin, lakeside picnic, pot luck and so on.

Membership to Raleigh Sail and Power Squadron and USPS is by application and is for anyone that shares our common appreciation of boating, has passed a USPS recognized boating safety course and is interested in advancing the objectives of our organization.  These include continuing education, community service, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members. Active members must be at least 16 years of age; there are no age considerations for family members.  For membership information contact Charles Miller at membershipgrowth@rsps.org or phone: (919) 954-0409.
