Raleigh Sail and Power
Squadron (RSPS) is a non-profit organization of sail and power boaters
in the Raleigh, N.C. area dedicated to promoting safe boating through
education. RSPS is one of over 450 squadrons that comprise the United States Power Squadrons®, an organization of approximately
55,000 members dedicated to the sport of recreational boating. We
support the sport through organized events such as rendezvous and
cruises, classes and civic service projects.

- EDUCATION:
Our educational activities include an introductory boating course
(The Squadron Boating
Course) for the general public, and a
series of advanced courses on a variety of boating topics for our
members. The squadron promotes boating safety via a display
booths at local boat shows and other events, such as national safe
boating week and Wake County's Waterfest. We have also made safety
presentations at several corporate events.
- CIVIC SERVICE: RSPS is involved in three main civic service projects. The first
is the USPS - NOAA
Cooperative Charting
Project. This effort helps keep the government charts
accurate. The second is NC Big Sweep. Big Sweep is a waterway cleanup
program.
Finally RSPS has
several examiners that participate in the Vessel Safety Check program, a joint
project of USPS and the USCG Auxiliary.
- FRATERNAL BOATING:
During the boating season, we usually have at
least one coastal cruise per month, and several outings at the local
lakes (Jordan, Falls, Kerr, Gaston). Each month includes a membership
meeting that may take the form of dinner at a local restaurant, a fish
fry, oyster roast, pig pickin, lakeside picnic, pot luck and so on.
