Coastal Cruise Little Washington to Belhaven

May 19 to 21, 2017

The first RSPS coastal cruise for 2017 is scheduled for May 19-21, and will include overnight visits to Washington and Belhaven, NC. The first day and night will be Friday May 19, with trailerable boats launching at Washington, and moving to the Washington Waterfront Docks. Other boats are requested to join the group in Washington. Please contact Washington Waterfront Docks at (252) 944-6661 to make a slip reservation. Dinner will be in a local restaurant within walking distance. All RSPS members and guests that do not have boats or prefer to travel via land transportation, are encouraged to join us for boat hopping starting around 1800 or 6pm, while partaking of a beverage or two and some type of finger food before wandering to a restaurant to be named. There are also several motels within a couple of miles of the docks. There are a variety of shops within walking distance as well as the North Carolina Estuarium, which is an informative museum and a delight to visit. On Saturday May 20, the boats will leave Washington at a reasonable time enroute to River Forest Marina in Belhaven. The docks and facilities have been restored to its prime. Contact Dock master Henry Boyd at 252-943-0030 to make slip reservations. It is recommended that you make your slip reservation as soon as possible as our time at River Forest will be during the peak “snowbird” season. Be sure to mention Raleigh Sail and Power Squadron when you make your reservation. Belhaven is a unique small river village with quite a bit of history and everything is within walking distance. We will again have a boat hopping time starting about 1800 or 6pm, and anyone in the area is encouraged to join us and enjoy a beverage and some type of finger food before we wander to a restaurant to be named, although The Tavern at Jacks Neck has been frequented by other USPS Squadrons and is the leading candidate to host us. If you plan to join the activities, whether by boat or land conveyance, please contact me at opportunity@embarqmail.com and advise me of what your plans are so that we can plan accordingly, know who should be showing up, and assure that you are kept informed about the plans and events of the weekend. If you will be in the area and not on a boat, and wish to cruise down the Pamlico River and the Pungo River on Saturday, please let me know and we will try to make arrangements so more people can enjoy being on the water. Make sure that you have plans to get back to Washington or wherever you need to be.
